Workforce Development
Moving History’s workforce development program is designed to offer essential training in professional skills to practitioners of African American folk dances. This pipeline from community to classroom enables artists who are rooted in African American cultural traditions to gain the support and experience to effectively pass on their knowledge to the next generation. Moving History nests the traditional call and response educational system of the Black community within a standardized, kinetic curriculum. Thereby offering keepers of the culture an opportunity to learn the processes and expectations of schools, recreation centers, and other institutions of learning. Each adult Teaching Artist works with a team of Youth Interns who shadow them as they teach in order to learn the skills of the trade.
